Indian Air Force has released the AFCAT 2/2026 notification for officer entry into Flying, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches for the January 2027 course. AFCAT is the primary route for graduates to become commissioned officers in the IAF. What sets AFCAT apart — it's a combined selection for multiple branches in one exam, and Women candidates are equally eligible for most branches. Applications were typically open in April 2026. Age: 20 to 24 years for Flying, 20 to 26 years for Ground Duty. No application fee.

Qualification
- •Flying Branch: Graduation with 60% in aggregate (Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level mandatory).
- •Ground Duty Technical: B.E./B.Tech in relevant engineering discipline with 60% marks.
- •Ground Duty Non-Technical: Graduation in any discipline with 60% marks.
- •NCC Air Wing 'C' Certificate holders may get benefit in selection.

Selection Process
- •AFCAT Written Exam: Online objective test — Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, Reasoning & Military Aptitude, General Awareness.
- •AFSB Interview (5 days): Air Force Selection Board at Dehradun, Mysuru, Gandhinagar, or Varanasi.
- •Medical Examination: At Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME) or IAM.
- •Final Merit: Based on AFSB marks + medical fitness.
EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) mandatory for Ground Duty Technical candidates.
